Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Natural Gas Customer Choice Program?
In Michigan, customers have the option to buy gas from an Alternate Gas Supplier (such as MNG), rather than the utility. This program offers customers more competitive rate choices and added control over their natural gas rate.
Am I eligible to switch to Michigan Natural Gas?
If you currently receive your gas from either DTE, Consumers Energy, Michigan Gas Utilities, or SEMCO and your account is active and in good standing, you are eligible to switch to Michigan Natural Gas as your supplier. Your utility company may charge a $10 fee for more than one switch within a 12-month period.
What rate plans are available?
MNG offers a variety of competitive rate packages, including fixed, market, and combination plans. See our SERVICES page for more details. We can also help you choose a program that best fits your family or business, just give us a call toll-free at 888-988-6424!
What will my current natural gas utility do when I switch?
-Continue to deliver your natural gas as always.
-Handle any service and emergency calls and issues.
-Send your monthly bills as always, but with your new MNG rate.
Can I remain on my budget billing plan?
Yes, your billing process will remain the same. You will still receive one monthly bill, but your new MNG rate will be listed as a line item instead of the GCR (Gas Cost Recovery) utility rate.
Do I have to call my current utility when I enroll with Michigan Natural Gas?
No. Michigan Natural Gas will contact your utility for you to let them know that you are making the switch to us as your natural gas supplier. There is no hassle or service interruption.
What are the benefits of Gas Customer Choice with Michigan Natural Gas?
-Many more billing plan options, including rate security.
-Personalized customer service from the experienced Michigan Natural Gas team.
-Fast, easy, and convenient enrollment.
If I have questions, who should I contact?
You should still contact your utility for all billing and maintenance issues. Call Michigan Natural Gas with any questions about your natural gas rate.
